Hi Folks
New installed ThundB on a Linux laptop and a new acccount with it.
Now I want to fetch all emails from an old laptop and merge them with the new laptop, also folders under for instace the inbox and its subfolders.
It is not possible to just merge/copy the prefs.js file. I need somehow to merge the data from the files: >Inbox.sbd- inbox and Inbox.msf and others, similar for Sent and so on.
How to do this?
I use POP3 and LinuMint 20.2 on the new laptop and Mint 19.2 on the old and ThBird 68.10. 0 on both.
Thank You.

Re: Merge email from 2 computers
A key consideration in your plan to merge the data from two systems is whether or not the old account will be active on the new computer. If not, you won't need to migrate the prefs.js file. See if the guidance in this article is helpful in migrating the message data and address book data from the old system to the new. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Transferring_ ... hunderbird

You could use the ImportExportTools NG add-on at https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-us/th ... ng/?src=ss to import the mbox files from the profile on the old laptop that contain the messages into a child folder in "Local Folders", and then merge the contents with the corresponding folders in your account.
Mbox files store all of the messages for a folder in a file named after the folder, but with no file extension."inbox." is the mbox file that contains the messages for a inbox folder, "inbox.msf" is basically a cache of the folder listing (has no messages and can be ignored) and "inbox.sbd" a renamed directory used to organize any child mail folders into a hierarchy. Similarly "sent." would be the mbox file for a sent folder....
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Importing_folders was written for an older version of the add-on (non-NG version) but the basics are still accurate.
https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-US/th ... movedupes/ is an add-on to help remove duplicates.

Re: Merge email from 2 computers
Ha...ha..it was fast.......
The two computers has no connection with each other. So I think I need to download and install that "adds on file" on both machines and from the old one save it to a USB memory stick.
Is that right?
Or other solutions?
Is it possible to connect a USB cabel beetween the computers? And than how/what?
Thanks.

Re: Merge email from 2 computers
sorry, I just remembered the USB can not do this connection, needs a USB Bridge cable and some software.
So. I think I must connect them via the WiFi or the router or a Ethernet cable. I try and come back telling.
Thanks

Copying the files to a USB/flash drive would be a simple solution. You could also create a file share for the profile on the old laptop and then mount it using the new laptop. See https://www.lifewire.com/how-to-share-n ... ux-4687660 for one way to do that.

One need to get the files from the old computer other way.
I'll go on and when finished and working, I' l come back and tell7report.
