Contacts Sync to Google

Post by micksulley »

I used to be able to sync contacts with Google but the methods I have used in the past are now no longer compatible. How can I sync contacts? I am happy to use Address Book or CardBook on TB.
Running 78.14.0 (64-bit) on Linux Mint 20.2
Thanks

You used to be able to use the gcontactsync add-on but it doesn't support later than version 73. You should be able to use the CardBook add-on at https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-US/th ... ostpopular instead. See https://gitlab.com/CardBook/CardBook/-/issues/1360 if you want to use it.

See https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1321916 for a solution that uses the built-in address book.

See https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-US/th ... nc/?src=ss for an add-on that adds Google Contact support to the TBSync add-on. This solution is complicated (requires two add-ons plus you generate your own Google API Console project credentials) so I suggest you try the prior one first and see if the synch support has improved enough.

Personally I use fruux instead as my CardDAV provider. That requires the "Provider for CalDAV and CardDAV" add-on and the TBSync add-on.

I can confirm that Cardbook works wonderfully with contacts on Google.

Cardbook does seem to work well with google contacts once you get it setup.

Also, I've noticed that I can export all my google contacts on my phone to google drive using the contacts application on my phone. The export puts all your contacts in a single .vcf file. You can then download that .vcf file to your computer and use TB's import function to import the contacts in the .vcf file into thunderbird address book. This process works a lot smoother than exporting google contacts to a .csv file, editing in excel, and then importing the edited .csv file into TB.

Better than nothing but Cardbook does two way updating as long as you get it working AND as iong as you don't mind using cardbook interface instead of the addressbook interface.
