mailto link in browser says TB profile missing/inaccessible

Post by gaalrayn »

When I try to send an email from a mailto: link in my browser I get the following error message: "Your Thunderbird profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible."

TB otherwise works well.

That problem can occur if the profile folder is not specified in the profiles.ini file or is inaccessible for some reason. I'd expect your browser to try to use your default profile. Perhaps you're not using your default profile when you normally launch Thunderbird. I suggest you click on about:profiles in help -> more troubleshooting information and see what the default profile is.

I've customized my Firefox toolbar to add the button to mailto the current web page. That uses the default setting of Thunderbird and works fine. If you're using Firefox I suggest you do the same thing and see if using that button makes a difference.

If you are using Portable Thunderbird see https://portableapps.com/node/25189 . You need to edit some keys in the windows registry to help it find the profile.
