Just updated to TB 102. Emptied trash. Tried to compact...no go.
Seems to work OK on other folders.
Spoke too soon. Not working in another email account.
Using POP3 for all email accounts.
Update: did a repair on folders. Sometimes compact worked, sometimes not.
This is a very frustrating, sporadic problem.

There are problems with file -> compact folders in 102 with IMAP accounts. Known problem, a developer is working on it. Its possible it might also effect POP accounts.
Try right clicking on the folder in the folder pane and selecting "compact" from the context menu instead of file -> compact folders. That workaround works with IMAP accounts in 102. I don't have a POP account with mbox files to test it against (my only POP account uses maildir files).
If compact doesn't work with the other account one possibility is the folder is corrupt. See if there are message fragments, the date in the folder listing for some messages is about January 1st, 1970, or some deleted messages have been resurrected.

Right-clicking the folder and selecting "compact" has the same outcome...no compaction.
Also noticed the message "Done compacting ( approx xx MB saved). Later, go back and compact again. Same message.
Hope the IMAP fix also fixes POP.

Update: Ver 102.0.1 (64-bit) seems to have addressed this issue. Problem still exists, but a simple restart allows compaction to work properly.
That is, until more deletions/compactions. Then the problem reappears.
