New Information in the email headers

Post by stevemedia »

Hi,
I have a situation where I now have three new lines of blue text when I open each email.
The normal , Sender, Return address and recipient email addresses are as expected.
However, directly below these are three lines of blue text which after inspection look like the same information.
Only they are a range of alpha characters ending with the email address e.g. @gmail.com etc.
I have an image file but I can't see how to attach it to this query.

TIA.
Steve
I have been informed that "Conversations" may have been initiated recently?

P.S. Thank you for showing me how to post a link to the image.

You can post the pic on an external site, then link to the page.

You can disable the Conversations addon in the Addons Manager.

Menu Bar > Tools > Addons and Themes > Extensions

I think version 102 sets "view -> sort by" to Threaded by default but that doesn't display extra headers when I configure that.

https://github.com/thunderbird-conversa ... ons/issues doesn't seem to have an issue about extra headers being shown. Nothing relevant in https://github.com/thunderbird-conversa ... s/wiki/FAQ

One workaround would be to use the Compact Headers add-on at https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-US/th ... rs/?src=ss . That lets you configure your view setting to show 0 or 1 line of headers.

I'm not using the above addons.

I can show the message-id header by setting the mailnews.headers.showMessageId preference to true, then restarting the app. (default false)

I may be able to show the message-id, in-reply-to and references headers using the mailnews.headers.extraExpandedHeaders preference. (default empty string)

Customize what headers you see
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Custom_header ... rs_you_see

Try searching for modified mailnews.headers.* preferences in the config editor.

Config editor

Thanks to all advice provided.
This problem is not actually on my Thunderbird app. It's on a friend's.

Question If I re-install Thunderbird what are the chances the settings are in his Profile and therefore nothing gained?

The saving grace is that he only has two email accounts and both are configured as IMAP.
So a complete uninstall/deletion would not be a big task..

Settings are stored in the prefs.js file in the profile. I would be surprised if re-installing Thunderbird helped, you don't have any of the symptoms of a incomplete/botched update.

Good point, well made

Is there any way I could get hold of a newly generated prefs.js file which could replace the one in this profile?
If not it's plan B and a total re-install of app and profile.
Thanks again for the assistance.

If you don't have a backup of a "good" prefs.js file you could make a backup of that file , view your existing one using a text editor such as NotePad++ and delete any lines that begin with user_pref("mailnews. in it. That will leave your add-ons, accounts, multiple identities , address books, printer settings, and calendars alone. It will basically remove your visual customizations.

I think its easier to do it that way than via the config editor.

Thank you,
I'll inspect my own prefs.js file and see if I feel confident enough to do it.
