Mark a message as unread and the badge does not update.
Seems to have happened since updating to 102.1.2 (64-bit). Worked fine before.
mail.notification.count.inbox_only is set to "false".
Tried restarts...no luck.
Happens in all folders.
Update:
Happens sporadically.
Fix: Exit TB, start in safe mode (badge shows), restart normal TB and all is OK.

New is not the same as unread. In many cases that difference doesn't matter but I'm used to seeing it matter for new mail notifications such as the icon badge.

I'm getting confused.
This morning, after starting my PC, 2 things happened:
1. The badge counter worked as it should. Option is set to "Count of unread messages"
2. Compaction worked on my inbox (reported in another post).
Only thing I can think of is that my cache2 folder had been relocated to my Ramdisk years ago, which is initialized during startup.
Config entry: added browser.cache.disk.parent_directory and set to R:\Thunderbird.
