Inline images are resized

Post by reevuur »

Hi,

I switched to win11 and noted that inline images in TB are now resized.
They are larger than the default image size.
How can I stop resizing?

Tried it also without add_ons, same problem.

My TB version = 102.2.1 - 64 bits - english

Thanks,
R.

Perhaps your installation of Windows 11 is using a different DPI setting than your prior operating system.

Are you using the same version of Thunderbird and the same profile as before?

Has the size of text in the Thunderbird user interface or in plain text messages changed too?

Yes that is it. You're right.
I've looked in the settings.
The display resolution is 1920x1080
The scale is 125% (= Recommended).

I tried changing the scale to 100% and added an inline image. Now it works.
The images using the 125% scale are blurry.
However, the letters using the 100% scale are way too small on my PC and hard to read.
Is there a way to resolve this?

Experiment with View -> Font Size and View -> Density. If the size of text is okay in the user interface but not in messages change the font size settings in tools -> preferences.

See http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?p=14857723 if message text is too small.

I'm using Windows 11Pro with 1920x1080 resolution on a 24 inch monitor with 125% scaling and tweak the font size as needed in individual applications such as Notepad++, Firefox and Thunderbird. That way applications that are part of Windows such as File Explorer that don't let you tweak the font size are readable.

My problem is not that I can't read the text on win 11 at 125% scaling, I can read it very well.
My problem is that the inline images are too big (probably 125% instead of 100%).
How did you manage to see the inline images (writing emails) without being resized by Thunderbird?

Changing the font size/density didn't change the inline images resizing. Still 125% scaling.

The inline images never get too big for me because while they may exceed the window pane height they never exceed the width. I have a test message with a 2.6MB embedded image of the grand canyon that used to be my desktop background. Its displayed with just vertical scroll bars.

My screen is 1920 width x 1080 height.

Content-Type: text/html; charset=ISO-8859-15
Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit

<html>
<head>

<meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html; charset=ISO-8859-15">
</head>
<body bgcolor="#FFFFFF" text="#000000">
<img alt="" src="cid:part1.09020004.05030809@yahoo.com"
height="1200" width="1600">
</body>
</html>

If I toggle the folder pane on/off I can see that the message clips some of the width (without adding a horizontal scroll bar) when I enable the folder pane.

Another one has the 1SO 8859-15 character set encoding table that I copied and pasted from wikipedia. Its full of text and numerous HTML table commands. It scrolls vertically, but not horizontally. If I disable the folder pane I see the same content , it just adds more white space between each column.

So I don't know what to suggest as I haven't had to do anything.

Thank you for your answer.
I still haven't found a solution.

Your image is not loading. I only see an empty block.

My problem is not that an image is too big. Scroll bars are excellent.
My problem is that TB resizes the images (125%).
They therefore aren't sharp anymore.
They are also not sharp at the receiver.

I am curious if the image is actually resized in the attachment or if just resized for presentation.
As tanstaafl suggest look at the View in the menu bar of TB. There is a zoom Text Only option. This is separate from Windows 125% factor but might help.

Note: using the Ctrl + and Ctrl - works properly with the zoom Text Only checked.
Using the Ctrl and mouse wheel will zoom the image and text when zoom text only is checked. This is likely a bug.

Ctrl 0 (zero) will reset the size to your working size. See if Ctrl 0 (zero) will reset the image to the actual size.

Hello BruceAWittmeier,

Only the inline images are resized.
If I send them as attachments, they are not resized.

I tried to play around with Zoom.
If I click 2x on Zoom-out, the image is correct (100%).
When I click on reset it is resized again and not sharp (125%) as if I drag the image in TB.

Sounds like you are setting your entire system to the new value used in Windows 125? This might correct to read as your 2nd post at the top.

From the Menu > Tools > Settings > Config Editor (very bottom right)

Search for font.size.systemFontScale

Default value: 100
Double click to change
Try 120
Then you might be able to return your Windows to 100 or whatever the default original value was.

See Ruben's suggestions.

Thank you for your reply.

I've played with it.
from 90% to 125%.
It doesn't change the inline images.
They are all resized to 125% whatever font.size.systemFontScale I use.

Found a temporary solution to customize TB to an unscaled view.
I changed "layout.css.devPixelsPerPx" from -1 to 1 in about:config and increased the font size in TB.
