I'm running Thunderbird 102.4.2 under Windows 11Pro and (via a light weight VM - 5.10.102.1-microsoft-standard-WSL2) Thunderbird 102.2.2 under Ubuntu. The former has several IMAP and one POP account. The later has a subset of that - just one POP and one IMAP. They have different profiles. No problems.
Did you try temporarily disabling global search/indexing?
popstate.dat should not shrink as you download more mail, even if you delete the downloaded message. Its basically a log of what messages have been downloaded from the POP server, NOT what messages are in the inbox. Does yours shrink like Johnny_Sun's?
