[Resolved] How can I Change the Subject of Received Emails?

Post by skuddle »

Sometimes I get a reply to a post and the Subject field is added information or a bunch of meaningless (to me) numbers. Is there any way that I can change the Subject of replies that I get?

One example is when I get email from another country the Subject field often begins with "***SPAM***", and the email is not spam.

Hi,
Whilst I do not use this extension, it may suit your needs.

@Limpet
Thank you very much for the link to a very useful extension!

I have tested it in Betterbird 102.4.2 and it works a treat for changing the Subject of an email in my IMAP Hotmail and Yahoo accounts. That's all I'll ever want to do with it but it is a very, very useful facility to have. Thanks again!

Just found another extension that does the same thing: Header Tools Improved

Haven't tested it but thought to post link here in case anyone can't get Header Tools Lite to work for them — here is an alternative to try.

I found a way that suits me:

1. Open the email whose header you want to change.
2. Click the hamburger menu at the upper right of the email's window, then click "Message>Edit As New Message".
3. Change the message's Subject to whatever you want.
4. Click "Save".

DONE! The original email will not be deleted or changed, and the time and date of the Saved email will reflect the time and date of the changes that you just made.

Which is something I definitely don't want to happen. Nevertheless, good information which I have now stored on my back-burner, should I ever need it.

Nice to know about these two extensions.

I use Edit Email Subject.

It does only one thing: edit the subject of an email, but it does it very simply.

Once the extension is installed, here is how to change the subject of an email:
– In the list of messages (top right pane), right-click on the message for which you want to change the title.
– At the very bottom of the popup menu, select "Edit message subject".
– A popup window appears with the current title. Edit it as you will, click OK and you're done.
– It may take a few seconds, but the message will now have its new title.
