For one account, Inbox shown as a blank space

I have 2 accounts. In one account, the list of emails was blank. The left panel shows that there should be 1736 emails. Everything was fine earlier today.

By using the "Select columns to display" icon, I was able to restore columns for Thread, Attachments, Read, Correspondents, and Date.

The column selector did not contain "Subject".

This issue is discussed here, with a really messy and unpredictable fix, which did not work for me:

How is the account set up in Thunderbird, as POP or IMAP? Find out using menu path Tools->Account Settings->Server Settings->Server Type at the top right of the dialogue.
