delete mail in the server (POP)

Post by praspn »

I have set up thunderbird on winXP to get email from my unix server
using POP. I have chosen the option to delete on the server when I delete
locally. However, it does not get deleted on the server even if I delete
it locally ? What am I missing ? Thanks -- Prasanna

I'm hoping that someone will reply to this.

I changed to IMAP also but still my emails do not
get deleted on the unix server. Then, once in a while
something goes wrong and thunderbird downloads all the emails again.
This will make the deleted emails to come back and duplicates lot
of other emails which are already there in the local machine.

My first reaction would be to temporarily use another IMAP client (Mozilla or Outlook Express) to check that its not a problem with your server.

Thanks. Now, I've changed TB(IMAP) to mark messages as deleted
and then I run "compact folders" option in File menu. That seems
to do the trick - message gets deleted on the server.
