unable to locate and SuSE 8.1

Afterdownloading the file, I unpacked it by using Ark to /home/myname/thunderbird.
If I click on /home/myname/thunderbird/thunderbird the message apears:
"unable to locate thunderbird".

As su I tried ln -s /home/myname/thunderbird/thunderbird as suggested by "Persist" on dec.29.2003. now I get the message "cannot overwrite folder".

What am I misseing?
