Hi,
Spam Inspector sets up the mail server username as "me:site.com" instead of just "me" and connects locally to 127.0.0.1. Thunderbird will not check any of the mail accounts, it just stalls out.
Is there a different format I should be using for this?
thanks,

How to configure for Spam Inspector?

It sounds like it runs as a proxy so I expected you would configure the proxy in tools->options->advanced->connections. However, I took a look at the outlook express instructions at http://www.giantcompany.com/(0ufnes2dzzothh55npuova55)/kbArticle.aspx?articleID=74
They appear to want you to specify your POP address as 127.0.0.1 and specify your POP username as 'username' + ':' + 'what you used to have for your old POP server name'. If comparing your settings with the URLs instructions/illustrations doesn't solve your problem, I'd try restoring your old setup and setting tools->options->advanced->connections to use 127.0.0.1 and port 110, rather than a direct connection.
I found http://www.giantcompany.com/(klmfoi2iks3b0g55mrgmqc55)/kbArticle.aspx?articleID=82 which describes how thier proxy defaults to the standard POP3 port and what to do if it conflicts with another service.
You could also try setting it up with Outlook Express just as a learning exercise (since they have instructions for it), and then once you get it working mimic your settings in thunderbird. In fact its possible if you used thunderbirds tools->import to import the settings it would set it up for you.

thanks very much for the reply. I should have clarified some:
I already use SI w/ OE. I installed thunderbird and imported the mail settings, which caused the problem I have now. When I installed SI, it installed nav bars in OE, which is what you configure/run SI with, so even if I get it to use it as a proxy, I think I'm still up the river, because I won't be able to operate SI through the mail client.
thanks,
