retrieving invisible email

Post by alastc »

I did a very foolish thing, and I'm hoping someone can help me...

I thought I was deleting the contents of my junk folder (cntr-a, del), and I then cleared the trash, not realising it was my inbox!

I did quickly back up the Inbox file (21MB) in my profile/mail folder, which has all the mail in it, but I can't get Thunderbird to see it there. I deleted the msf file to try and get it to 'see' it, but no luck.

It's not the end of the world, i can get at the text in the file, but not through Thunderbird... Any ideas?

Cheers,

One thing that sometimes works is to turn Tbird off, keep the original inbox, and make a copy of it, then restart Tbird; that may cause the copy to appear. If that works, you can then copy the visible messages from the copy into the "real" in-box.

Thanks John, I have tried that but it didn't work. The folder appeared, but it was empty when I clicked into it, which is why I called it 'inivisble' emails!
