`GLIBC_2.3.2' not found

When I try to run thunderbird I get this error message:

/usr/local/thunderbird/thunderbird-bin: /lib/i686/libpthread.so.0: version `GLIBC_2.3.2' not found (required by /usr/local/thunderbird/libnspr4.so)

I do have glibc 2.3.2 installed, so this shouldn't be a problem.

The way I installed it was that I unzipped the file into /usr/local/thunderbird (should be ok, shouldn't it?)

Ditto from here. I haven't looked around a lot yet, but I'm having this exact same problem. I'm using the 2.6.1-RC3 kernel, so I think there may be some issues there, but still... we need to figure it out and put it in the FAQ, imo.
