Logitech software causing problems

Post by Andy_FFox »

The update would not work for me either.

I right clicked on the Logitech icon in taskbar and clicked 'Exit' to close the app. Thunderbird updated fine.

Thanks to previous posters.

Software update failed

Anonymous wrote:You are right, but you do not need to *uninstall* the quickcam, just stopping it is enough to install a new version like 2.0 .

No need to mess about deleting directories etc. All I had to do was use Task Manager to end the process "Quickcam.exe", then click n the OK button.

The underlying fault in the installation process seems to be:
1. the message is not sufficiently informative (should include reference to "cancel any web cam processes"
2. should not loop indefinitely, but should offer Retry / Cancel

Thanks! I just exited the quickcam program (taskbar, right click, exit) and the update installed fine.

Exactly the same thing happened. Thunderbird did an update last night which wouldnt install. did a manual download which wouldnt install and suddenly I am left with no email at all. Was beginning to get a bit frantic and just spent half an hour trawling through mozilla website looking for help.

Thanks to this thread I find out its all because of Logitech...

So, a real big thank you to whoever noticed what the problem was! Perhaps someone ought to flag up the logitech problem in known issues? This must be happening to loads more of us. I expect that the less computer literate of us dont realise that when install instructions say close down other applications that there are usually about a dozen or so *e.g. logitech* that are running in the background anyway.

By the way, the new thunderbird looks good.

A lot of us seem to be getting a different error message than they one listed in that KB article. I looked at that KB article but until I saw this thread I didn't realize they were the same issue.

I have a Logitech Webcam, but it's not running. It wasn't running when Thunderbird decided to update.
I clicked "Ok" to allow it to download the update, and when the install started, I got this error:
http://i17.tinypic.com/6au14qg.jpg

The only way to stop the install was doing a "Crl + Alt + Del" and stopping Thunderbird.exe process.

I then downloaded the old version: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/thunderbird/all-older.html

Then rename "mozMapi32.OLD" to "mozMapi32.dll"

They've pissed me off for the last time. I did a little search, and found that Eudora has gone Open Source!
Yay!!
Downloaded Eudora, and now I'm Exporting my AddressBook from TB, so I can update Eudora.

Thanks to all who notice these silly idiosynchrosis

Re: Eudora - I used to use it all the time...as for the open source being any better/different from Thunderbird:

Update not installing correctly

Post by Michael P »

I had the same issues with installing the update.

The advice regarding exiting the Logitec Webcam was invaluable and fixed the problem.

Thanks to the contributors for the information. Very much appreciated.

Is this (Logitech) the first know issue without a Mozilla bug? Is this a Logitech bug?
