Importing Outlook express adress book manually

Post by Ryan Wall »

Is it possible to import the .wab (Address Book) file manually? I did an expot from Outlook Express. I now have a file that I could simply select and import into Eudora. Is there such an option with Thunderbird?

Thunderbird can't import a .wab book. However, if you export a .LDIF or .CVS file from outlook express (or eudora), you can import that in Thunderbird.

The Thunderbird Address book Import options for TB are:
Eudora
Outlook
Outlook Express
Text File (LDIF, .tab, .csv, .txt)

So Tools>Import>Address Book>Outlook Express then NEXT to begin the system search for OE's address book..

I just posted an inquiry about this. I did exacltly what you set out, and now have two entries for Outlook Express address book when I click my TB address book icon, neither of which contain any of my OE addresses. ???

Ok, go to your profile folder(assuming Windows OS) and delete, rename, or move the abook.mab file.
If there are more than one of that name delete, rename, or move them all.
Now do the Import again and see if it finds them.
The OE .wab files should be in a path similar to this:
C:\Documents and Settings\<user-name>\Application Data\Microsoft\Address Book

I just deleted my imported OE addresses and re-imported them and I get only one entry for them. It did not, and will not, bring in any filled in lists you may have in OE.

Okay - that did the trick. Wonder why it didn't work the first time if I'm using the same tool and commands.
Thanks for the solution!

I've successfully imported Outlook addresses via CSV windows export, but all my NOTES from Outlook contacts got wiped out. They are all blank in Tbird
