I'm sorry, "pop3.gmail.com" was a typo.

Server Type: POP Mail Server
Server Name: pop.gmail.com
User Name: ** e-mail address removed by moderator **
Port: 995
Secure Connection: SSL

This is copied from my Gmail Settings:

Status: POP is enabled for all mail that has arrived since Feb 11
Status: IMAP is disabled
Disable forwarding

I received a "Welcome to MozillaZine Forums" at that gmail address.

When I start TB, it just keeps asking me over and over again for my password at "** e-mail address removed by moderator ** on pop.gmail.com

Thanks for your assistance.

I removed your e-mail address because we do not give email support. To do so would deprive other users of the information offered in a response to your topic. More importantly, spammers harvest email addresses from public forums like this.

I have listed my TB settings and my gmail settings.
Do you have any ideas why my TB cannot read my gmail using POP?

I'll not enter email addresses in the future. Thanks for removing them.

Try entering just the portion of your Gmail email address before the @ as your username under Tools->Account Settings->Server Settings.

I tried using the portion before the @ and I get the following Alert:

An account with that user name and server name already exists. Please enter a different user name and/or server name.

Then I must click "OK".

Should I remove the entry and try again?
Thanks.

Were you creating a new account in Thunderbird or editing the value in the existing Gmail account?

After removing the entry and adding a new account, everything works great.

Post by jilea »

hi i have exactly the same problem as the gmail user.
i have two email addresses and thunderbird won't recognise my password for either the @vetsbeyondborders.org address or the @netspace.net.au one

also, thunderbird has dropped all its components on my desktop. should that have happened?

jilea, please start a new topic. There are many variables in these issues and too much risk of confusion when discussing different systems.

Why don't we have the ability to turn off the password requirement. I don't need one for email.

You need to ask your email provider that. It is their requirement. But, if an email provider didn't require a password, I certainly would not use them.

You have to clear the captcha on gmail, whatever that means.

I had the exact same problem where all gmail settings on thunderbird checked out but gmail would not accept the recently updated password. I just figured it out. Here is the solution from google:

Error: Sending of password did not succeed. Mail server pop.gmail.com responded: Username and password not accepted.

Verify your password and then clear the captcha.
