saving e-mails

Greetings,

Is it possible to save e-mails? yes, i know there is an option of doing that, it saves e-mails on a hard drive, but i dont need that. Often i get emails form friends and Thunderbird is unable to select right encoding automaticaly. I have to do it maualy, once I changed it, I would like to save email so in future it will always stays with this new encoding, otherwise I have to do the same process over and over. Outlook has this feature. And i'm not switching to Thunderbird only because of that.
