LDAP initiliazation problem

Post by linguistdude »

When I type in names/addresses and Thunderbird (0.5 (20040207)) tries to contact my LDAP server, I get this error:

"LDAP initiliazation problem

Error code 34: Invalid DN syntax

Please contact your System Administrator."

It also asks me to login to my LDAP server, but I shouldn't need to.

My settings are:
Name: UMN LDAP
Hostname: ldap.umn.edu
Base DN: o=University of Minnesota, c=US
Port number: 389
Bind DN: <blank>

Use secure connection (SSL) is unchecked.

I'm sure the settings are right; they work fine in Netscape mail clients and also in Mozilla mail.

Any thoughts/ideas?

Thanks in advance.

I also get the same problem using Mac OS X. The link "http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=62125&highlight=ldap+initialization" appears to apply to Windows.
Any ideas on how to fix this problem under Mac? (I get the message ldap initialization problem. Error code 2).
