how to delete account from Thunderbird
Howdy,
Thunderbird 2.0.0.17 running on Windows XP with four "accounts" showing in the pane, having successfully added the fourth account, I'd like very much to delete one - but haven't found any way to do so. Anyone have a clue? -- serry.

Tools>Account Settings. Select the account you want to remove and click on the Remove Account button at the bottom of the window.

Oh. Oh! *Thank* you, Daifne - I should've seen that in the first place. "What's obvious to one, isn't always obvious to another." (...and I just got new glasses, too.....)

How do I do that if the Remove Account button is grayed out?

The button is grayed out if the account you want to remove is set as the Default account. Set another account as the default first.

Re: how to delete account from Thunderbird
Is the "account" named Local Folders? If so, that's created by Thunderbird and cannot be deleted. See this: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Local_Folders

Re: how to delete account from Thunderbird
no. It is not called 'Local Folders' I renamed it to Kaput, as in broken #.
Anyway, I still can't delete it.

From what you said in the other topic, it's named that because you renamed it. Read the article please.

Re: how to delete account from Thunderbird
I probably just rename 'local folders' thinking I was creating a new account. Maybe it does not make sense have the 'local folder' settings in the list of accounts? very confusing.

Personally, I think it does belong there. If you are using the Global Inbox in Local Folders, there will be other settings topics for you to use. If you are just using it for storage, say for an IMAP account, then I would agree with you, but since it serves multiple purposes, that's the best place for it.

Re: how to delete account from Thunderbird
You're right. But there is a Remove Account and that's what you use.

Re: how to delete account from Thunderbird
why does "improve" and "upgrade" always have to mean more complex instead of just simpler to use?
A simple asterisk beside the Local Folder or beside the greyed out Remove Folder buton, which leads directly to the explanation of what it is, would have saved me two hours of fracking around trying to figure out how to delete the damned thing.
