Phillip, thanks. I knew that. It has no bearing on my situation however. No matter what I install, it doesn't work. I think I have already lined out why, or at least given a synopsis of what others have explained to me, and am looking for a solution to those problems.

The information on the MozillaZine Knowledge Base should be correct respecting the location of SeaMonkey profiles:
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_SeaMonkey The path is listed in the grid, which you can follow in Finder. Keep in mind that the tilde (~) means it's your home directory. In Finder this just means you need to click the Home icon on the left, and on the right the Library folder should be seen. From there the path is pretty self explanatory. If some portion of this path is not seen, something else about your system may be different. If you can establish that the path is correct and the profile there, then we need to isolate the personal (myspell) dictionary and remove it or not move it to your new profile. I'm not sure what the file name would be, or it's exact location in your profile right now. Perhaps someone could chime in with that info? Gecko

I hope they can. Your link http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_SeaMonkey timed out and would not load. But finding the profile is not an issue. It's there, and has a lot of files and folders, few of which are comprehensible to me right now. No myspell or anything like it. There's a persdict.dat, but it contains only words I have added. And at that, none of those added words are ever suggested during writing, it just keeps certain words from being underlined as misspelled as I type.

The proxy server was down this morning and stalled a couple of MZ sites; a workaround has been established, but it may take some time until the new addresses propagate through the system.

Rename the /dictionaries/ directory. Restart SeaMonkey. See if spellcheck no longer functions. If so, then you've isolated the dictionary. Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1.4) Gecko/20091017 SeaMonkey/2.0 Pinball Refspoof CopyURL+ FetchTextURL FlashGot NoScript

Where in a Mac would you expect to find this /dictionaries/ directory? There's a system dictionary folder that I reckon has nothing to do with any browser. In any event, it can't be renamed or deleted, and the dictionaries in it are fairly obvious: Apple dictionary, OED, OED Thesaurus, things I could really use, actually. There's nothing even close to a "/dictionaries/ directory" in the user library.

Furthermore, I have this same issue on my Win2K machine. In both computers, I have always installed new versions over old without deleting the existing app/program first, or even thinking about profile baggage that evidently gets carried from one version to the next. I'm not interested in solving this on the Windows machine, as it's slated for retirement.

That would be a folder named "dictionaries" in your profile folder. If you don't see such, then there's something else afoot.

There is no such folder. Nothing like it. As I mentioned before, there's only a persdict.dat, but it contains only words I have added.
For that matter, I have, since moving to SM2, added the "United States Dictionary 4.0.0 English/United States (en-US) spellchecking dictionary." Where did it go?

Probably in your $PROFILE$/extensions/<some-random-guid>/. Phil

Here's the whole thing from the Mozilla folder in the user's library. Any other ideas?

The /dictionaries/ directory is in the installation directory, not in a Profile.

For SeaMonkey 2.0 (like FirePanda and DunderBird), installable dictionaries go in the profile. Phil

I could have sworn I replied to you earlier.
You didn't show what was in the extensions directory but I've checked the XPI from addons.mozilla.org -> United States English Dictionary 4.0.0 and it should go into $PROFILE$/extensions/en-US@dictionaries.addons.mozilla.org/dictionaries/ Phil

I did indeed show what was in the extensions directory: nothing. What you see there is an empty (highlighted) Extension folder. Adding dictionaries, if you're right, is pointless. It says they've been added, but they're not there. At least not where you think they should be. Any other ideas?
