Does anyone know of any currently active work to allow remote LDAP address book entries to be written / modified /created directly through Mozilla's Address Book interface?
If not, is there any other way of using a distributed, or at least server based address book with Mozilla?
The main advantage of this is to allow centralized backups and sharing of address books and contacts between users.

I agree. Just like I uses ICQ instead of AIM, so the "screen name" entry is not a valid field name for me. And I notice that there're some "custome entries" on the last tab (rightest tab), but I can't edit the field name... etc. I think it's a good idea to have editable entries.
