Cookie acceptance pop-up problem.
I'm sure I cannot be the only one to be having this problem, but I cannot find any mentions of it here or elsewhere online. Over the last 3 or 4 weeks I have been having increasing problems when the accursed cookie acceptance pop-up appears. On some sites (not all) clicking 'accept' has no result at all. On many of these it is impossible to read the page at all with the pop-up firmly glued in place.
This occurs on all 3 machines I've tried including a Linux machine running SM 2.53.9 and one with Windows 10 and SM 2.53.9 (64-bit), so it is not because of the out of date software I am using on this system. The problem does not exist with an out of date 32-bit version of Chrome or with MS Edge but does occur with the last 32-bit version of Firefox.
The only thing all these systems have in common is that the SM profiles are all derived from the same one, so I tried a new profile - no improvement.
Is there any solution? It is getting very tedious getting web-addresses in Seamonkey, which is the only browser fit to use, then opening Chrome so I can actually see the pages!

Re: Cookie acceptance pop-up problem.
I'm sorry that I don't have a solution, but just wanted to chime in and say it's happening to me, too. In my case, since I only use Linux, I switch to Chrome or Firefox to actually read the page in question when I can't get rid of the damn thing on SM.Vernier wrote:Over the last 3 or 4 weeks I have been having increasing problems when the accursed cookie acceptance pop-up appears. I'd like to know if this is a temporary hiccup--a known glitch, perhaps?--or yet another indication that fewer and fewer sites work with SM.

Well, at least I'm not the only one! It's surprising there seem to be no other reports of it online. It would seem something has changed in the software used to produce the pop-up. You can tell immediately if you are likely to have the problem: if the pop-up is a big one, covering most, or all, the width of the window, and with a BIG blue accept/agree button, you have a problem. Most other varieties are OK, although PayPal's pop-up, which is not this type, is also unremovable, but fortunately it is possible to carry on with it in place.

Not seeing it when I used the example posted here of Paypal. It asks that I accept cookies and then allows me to enter username and password in normal fashion.

Re: Cookie acceptance pop-up problem.
This is very interesting. PayPal is *not* one of the sites I have problems with. I can dismiss its blue cookie message without issue. Right now, for the life of me, I cannot recall any specific sites where I did have this problem, but if I come across any I'll post them.

Re: Cookie acceptance pop-up problem.
I do not see any preference setting allowing asking for permission to set cookies. There used to be one, but it seems to be gone. I do not see anything asking me about cookies, maybe because I block cookies by default and make exceptions for those that I need.

And obviously these sites do not have URLs.On some sites (not all) clicking 'accept' has no result at all.

Re: Cookie acceptance pop-up problem.
Three of the sites where I can't remove the pop-up are:
https://www.tecmint.com/
https://itsfoss.com/
https://www.techspot.com/
You can see what I meant by a big blue button! PayPal I think may be a slightly different problem. I've a feeling I may only see the fault when I am directed there by another site to pay for something.
None of the above three work in SM 2.49, but just to confuse the issue, techspot does work in SM 2.53.9, though the other two don't!

Vernier, I do not see pop-ups at any of those sites and I presume you're not using adblocker.
Just install uBlock Origin from here: https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock-for-f ... y/releases

I have been using 'Adblock Plus', but turning it off has made no difference.

Well, I don't see any blue button, or a warning about cookies.
And, all those pages mentioned, load fast and work perfectly (But I use uBlock Origin Legacy 1.16.4.30). - As for that AdBlock-Plus crappola:
SeaMonkey - Extensions (Add-ons) and Themes wrote: .... Adblock Plus 2.9.1 may cause huge memory and CPU consumption and is not recommended or officially supported in this SeaMonkey version.
Consider switching to uBlock.
But what the hell do you expect, using an OS that is totally obsolete and EOL for years .... ???
And a SeaMonkey version, that is more than three years old (May 4, 2018), and equally unsupported and obsolete .... ???

Re: Cookie acceptance pop-up problem.
They all work fine for me--I didn't get a cookie notice on any of them. I'm on itsfoss a lot, so I didn't expect a cookie notice there, but the other two sites I don't recall visiting, so I thought they'd come up, but didn't.Vernier wrote:Three of the sites where I can't remove the pop-up are:

These all work for me with no cookie popup. I'd never previously visited these sites.Vernier wrote:Three of the sites where I can't remove the pop-up are:

I'm not sure how many of these replies are from the US. Perhaps we are at cross-purposes here. Do you even get the cookie pop-ups in the Land of the Free? I have never been certain. They were created as a bit of EU data-protection crap.trevoz wrote:

I am moving towards more current software and hardware, but as per my original post, I still have the problem on Seamonkey 2.53.9 even then. I've never noticed any problem with Adblock, but will try uBlock.

Re: Cookie acceptance pop-up problem.
I didn't saw "cookie pop-up" until cookies were blocked for that websites. When I accepted cookies then pop-up appeared and I was able to choose "reject all" and pop-up was hidden.Vernier wrote:I'm not sure how many of these replies are from the US.trevoz wrote:

I'm using AdblockPlus 2.9.1 and I didn't notice memory consumption bigger than uOrigin Legacy on test profile (with the same websites).
Of course, I have newer OS (still supported with paid ESU) and latest SeaMonkey 2.53.9.1 so it's hard to compare with seriously outdated software.
