Address Book Hiccup

Post by Peter Creasey »

With the current SeaMonkey version, when I first launch SeaMonkey and go to the email processor and try to launch the <Window> <Address Books>, I get this error message...

Subsequent launches of the Address Books work fine.

On the very first try of this after a reboot, after seeing the error message and launching the Address Books, every address book in the list is shown in duplicate.

How can I eliminate this problem, please?

Do you happen to have any add-ons running? If you do, what happens if you try disabling all add-ons and then restarting?
My current rig: Acer Aspire One D257, ALT Linux (Sisyphus x86_64), Window Maker (0.96.0), SeaMonkey (2.53.18.1)

No, I run my SM lean and clean...no add-ons I can think of other than uBlock.

Random thoughts, probably worth less than what you are paying....

Could it be a corrupted file in any way? Try adding another contact, close seamonkey, and see if it happens again, and or if the new contact is actually in there.

Have you had any other disk errors? Try windows disk repair just in case.

Another possible solution would be to copy the contents to a new address book, and delete the troublesome one.

Rob, thanks for chiming in.

Another contact was added just fine. And, yes, after closing SM and reopening, the error message appeared. The new entry in the address book was fine.

No disk errors have shown up.

How might I "copy the contents to a new address book, and delete the troublesome one."

Hmm, I thought that would be possible, don't find how just now.

You could try exporting it to csv, and importing back?

Still no suggestions for solving the problem described in Msg #1?

Might it be an option to install SeaMonkey over itself? Is this safe?

Thanks.

Thank you for responding.

I don't see a solution set forth there.

You appear to be implying the Address Book folder is somehow corrupted. How might I clean it up? Is there someway to clean it up without having to redo the individual address books?

Did you try that export import process as suggested by Rob_S?

The export of the Address Book folder just keeps trying to export and doesn't complete -- Windows has to close SeaMonkey to get out of it.

Exporting each of the individual address books appears to work fine.

Might installing SeaMonkey over itself be a viable solution?

Not at all likely.

You should export each address book individually, then import each one individually. Delete the original address books after confirming that the imported data is functional and matches you expectations.

Dan, thanks, but I don't understand.

I have already exported each address book individually.

Then you want me to import each individually.

What do you mean? -- "Delete the original address books after confirming that the imported data is functional and matches you expectations." Delete what exactly?

Delete the corrupted address books. That would leave you with just the imported address books.
