Cannot Undo Deleted E-Mail Messages
I used to be able to click Undo to undo a deleted e-mail message. I cannot undo them now. The messages do not appear in my Trash folder. How can I restore the Undo function? Thanks, Bob.

How is the account set up, as POP or IMAP?

Re: Cannot Undo Deleted E-Mail Messages
Try to manually recover the message:
* - Turn off SeaMonkey and do not compact
* - Locate the file containing the message (same name as the folder in Thunderbird, no extension) in your profile
* - Delete the file with the same name and the extension .msf
* - Open the file without extension with Notepad (or another text editor)
* - Locate the messages that were unintentionally deleted
* - Change the status (X-Mozilla-Status) to all zero
* - Save that file
* - Restart SeaMonkey
If you first moved the message to the Trash and after that emptied the Trash, you can try it also with the file Trash in your profile.

Thanks. Will do that if I can locate the file. Will it fix the problem permanently? Why did SM suddenly prevent me from undoing deleted messages? Bob.

Can't say from here. Note that holding down the Shift key when pressing the Del to remove a message will remove it permanently rather than shift it to the Trash folder. Not saying that you did that, only that that function exists.

Hello Dan,
Regards,
Dave.
As long as the folder the email was in hasn't been compacted, it will still be possible to recover it, using the method you described in your previous post!DanRaisch wrote:Note that holding down the Shift key when pressing the Del to remove a message will remove it permanently rather than shift it to the Trash folder

Re: Cannot Undo Deleted E-Mail Messages
Thanks. I did not hit the Shift key with delete. I had the Undo function working on all SM versions before. Something has changed on my system so that I cannot undo delete. I'd like to find the problem and fix it. Bob.

Re: Cannot Undo Deleted E-Mail Messages
Can you use the File button to move messages from the trash to some other folder? If I occasionally delete the wrong message, that works.

Re: Cannot Undo Deleted E-Mail Messages
Thanks. I can try that. Before if I deleted a message by mistake I could click on Undo and the message would reappear in my Inbox. It does not do that now for some reason. Bob.

Re: Cannot Undo Deleted E-Mail Messages
Undo will only work if no other functions have been used between the deletion and the attempt to undelete. Do you recall if the undo attempt was immediate?

Re: Cannot Undo Deleted E-Mail Messages
I can delete (move to Trash folder) and then undelete ("Ctrl+z" or "Menu -> Edit -> Undo Delete Message") but funny thing is when I empty "Trash" folder:
- I can see "Undo Delete Message",
- I can use it...
-... but message will be not undelete (because it was erased by emptying Trash folder),
- I can see "Redo Delete Message",
- I can use it...
-... but there is no message that can be deleted,
- I can use "Undo" function again,
-... and so on!
Compacting folders has no effect on this.
IMHO bug is when user can see option to udelete erased message (what is impossible).

Be that as it may, compacting will prevent the message from being recovered using the method outlined by Dan.TPR75 wrote:Compacting folders has no effect on this.

Re: Cannot Undo Deleted E-Mail Messages
Yes, I know. Thank you. My point is erased messages could be moved between MSF files (not visible but possible to recover; I didn't check this) that's why user can see options "Undelete/Redo". But no, it's just a bug.amrad wrote:Be that as it may, compacting will prevent the message from being recovered using the method outlined by Dan.TPR75 wrote:Compacting folders has no effect on this.

Re: Cannot Undo Deleted E-Mail Messages
To clarify things, the .msf files do NOT contain your full message text. They are index files, of a sort. Message text is stored in mbox format files which have no file name extension.
