I just updated to SM 2.46. I lost my default Google search engine, I got a DuckDuckGo as my default search engine. I went into about:config. My browser.search.defaultenginename is Google. I tried going to the Sidebar and clicked on Google and did a search but it still is DuckDuck. I went to Edit Preferences Browser Internet Search and it says Google.
How can I reset to Google?
Thanks, Bob.

AFAIK, that should work.
Sidebar -> Search => [the dropdown selector {not, Manage Search Engines...}] ===> Google
If that doesn't do it... at least temporarily...
Open Customize, drag the 'Search Bar' out, somewhere, & drop it somewhere.
From the Search Bar, change the search engine to Google.
Open Customize again, & drag the search bar back into it (assuming you don't actually want it around).
---
IMO...
Yep, this should be relnoted (if it is not).
Yep, ddg should not be the default.
Yep, this issue is known, but not yet fixed on our end.

I found browser.search.order.1;DuckDuckGo.
I found browser.search.order.2;Google
Can I just swap these and make 1 Google not DuckDuck?
Bob.

You want to drag the Search Bar out from the Customize window (somewhere into) the browser window itself, like beside Help.
After you drag it out, close the Customize window.
In the Search Bar, change to Google.
Open Customize again, drag the Search Bar from beside Help back into the Customize window, then close Customize.

Thanks. That did it. How did it change in 2.46? Bob.

You probably mean: why did it change?
The default search engine got removed from the Gecko backend/Firefox. It now mimics the current search engine. So if you do a search and set the current one it becomes the default one. Its an annoying bug but with the current workarounds available the ones really breaking the program got fixed first.

At the very least, there should be a choice. I get the preference for the no tracking with ddg, but being used to the facility of Google usage, I personally prefer it.

Re: SM 2.46 Defaut Search Engine
I saw that it was broken since 2.46.
Workaround: remove all others serach engine from prefrence list: it will use the only one remaining.

Re: SM 2.46 Defaut Search Engine
I just moved my preference to the top of the preference list and did a search with it. Thus far, it appears to be sticking.
