Hi Dan,
I reduced the size of the compact Inbox notice to 10 mb.
When I right click on the Inbox mail file in .....
E:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\Mozilla\SeaMonkey\Profiles\nnhz6ycf.default\Mail\pop.broadband.yahoo.com
I get booted out of explorer.

Re: Prevent Inbox mails from being deleted
Now that makes me wonder if there could be hardware issues involved here, such as bad sectors on the hard drive. Have you tried, with Thunderbird and all other programs closed, running CHKDSK on that machine to check that out?

I'll run chkdsk at startup, but I seem to recall not being able to change the names of these files some time in the past, when I was trying to do something else (I don't recall what), and the person that was helping me didn't think it unusual. I thought it was a safeguard. Can you change the name of this file on your computer?

Hello John,
If you mean the mail folders in SeaMonkey, if you try to change the name of a folder while SeaMonkey is running, it won't allow it. You have to first close SeaMonkey, then you will be able to change a mail folder's name.
Regards,
Dave.

Hi,
I ran CHKDSK and still could not rename the Inbox file; so I deleted it with FileAssassin, et voila ..... a new Inbox file. I will move the 4 messages back into it, and see how that works.

Well, that didn't take long. One of my messages has disappeared already.
Has anyone else had this problem?
Could my ISP be deleting messages that are not on it's server?

With a POP account the provider has no access to mesages once they are on your PC. I'm still thinking hard drive issues.

Hi all,
I ran the regular chkdsk on start up, and did a surface scan using Easus partition manager. Both seem fine. I think I'll try Thunderbird and see if it does any better. Thank you all for you help.
