unable to reply to messages

I keep getting this message when I try to reply to an incoming email:

The mail server responded:
5.7.1 <stwine111@gmail.com>... Relaying denied: You must check for new mail before sending mail..

The email address varies from sender to sender, but the "relaying denied, etc" is always the same.

Well I changed to port to 587 and it worked - so far! Thanks ~
