Google maps and 3D

Post by RobertJ »

.
Been test driving SM. I noticed that in FF when going to google maps image view that a 3D view is available; it is not in SM.

Also the image view shown in SM is newer than what is shown in FF.

If I use general.useragent.override.google.com to "pretend" that SM is FF to google.com by using a FF UA string, it shows the older image view with the 3D option.

Any thoughts on this?

There have been some threads here with similar content. Overall the consensus seems to be bad browser sniffing and google does what they want to do aynway. Overall its the same backend as Firefox so there shouldn't be a difference.

Did you download Lightning too? In Preferences->Advanced->HTTP Networking you can disable advertizing it in the UA string which helps for some sites.

Yes, didn't seem to do anything.

I also did this

general.useragent.override.google.com --> Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.12; rv:51.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/51.0

That did the trick.
