Some URLs?

Distorted in what way?

Any specific (Linux) sound driver or whatnot being used?
Which Linux are you using?

Which sound system does firefox use on linux?
Fire 750, bring back 250.

Distorted in what way?
like it's played in a different speed (slower?) with loud background noises
*distorted* is as close as i can think of

Nope, both those Chinese links you gave play fine for me. No distortion and both sound synced to the picture.

I suggest you check the sites with a new profile (just close SM, rename your existing .mozilla folder and start SM again.) and see if there is any change.

:-k
Same problem here. Bad browser sniffing on those two pages. #-o
Using SeaMonkey 2.48 (RC), SeaMonkey 2.49.1 and SeaMonkey 2.51 (unOfficial builds by A. Kalla).

As workaround, you should enable Firefox compatibility:
Edit > Preferences > Advanced >> HTTP Networking >> User Agent String -> [x]Advertise Firefox compatibility

Or use an extension to switch the user agent, like PrefBar or User Agent Switcher.

thanks, that's it
i've seen bad page layout caused by browser sniffing, never thought it would affect (just) sound

general.useragent.site_specific_overrides still works (firefox got rid of it for reason i don't remember)
i tried adding this and sound is nornal now

general.useragent.override.wsj.com;Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:59.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/99.0

Yep, me too. I never would have thought of checking browser sniffing to fix a distorted sound problem!

Well done, ElTxolo
