SAVING BOOKMARKS (Mac)

I am on vacation using my wife's MAC BOOK PRO, For some reason when I try to bookmark a site nothing happens. Nothing is saved. Any idea how I can fix this? Thanks. Using 2.30 as, like my IMAC desktop, I can't open e mails with 2.48.

Does the same thing occur if you launch the application in Mozilla Safe Mode? http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_mode

I've been going up to BOOKMARKS at the top and have clicked both BOOKMARK THIS PAGE and FILE BOOKMARK and nothing happens. I do this all the time on my desktop Mac at home but on this Mac Book nothing is saved or if it is I can't find it. Maybe what I've saved is hiding somewhere but if so where!!
