Transfer passwords from old profile to new

Post by scott-cam »

How do I transfer my old passwords from my old (corrupted) profile to my new one on the latest Sea Monkey (2.49.1)?

There's some general information on transferring profile data here:
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Transferring_ ... _SeaMonkey

However, from what I can gather from that I should have a file called signons.sqlite in my new profile folder, which I replace with the one in my old profile folder (as well as a key3.db file). However, there was no such file in my new folder. I tried copying it across anyway (as well as copying across key3.db), but that didn't work.

Any help with this would be appreciated.

Are you copying that file over with SeaMonkey closed?
Is here a file named "secmod.db" in both profiles?

Yes, you can't do it with SeaMonkey open.

Yes, I've tried that now, and it didn't work.

I noticed that the signons.sqlite from my original folder hadn't been modified since 2014, so clearly that file is no longer used for storing passwords.

Looking at the files that have been recently modified, I found logins.json, which looked the part. A search on that brought up some instruction pages which show that that's now the file that stores the passwords (these page didn't appear on my previous search; and the sort-of official SeaMonkey profile instruction page is out of date).

Copying that and key3.db across to the new profile has worked.
