Everything WAS working fine on my Windows XP laptop with SeaMonkey 2.48 but now it won't retrieve email. When trying it just shows the email address at the bottom screen and says "connected to [server address]". Sending email works fine.
This is true on two different email accounts -- gmail and compuserve.
What is suggested to remediate this?
Thanks!

What security software is running on that system?
Can you successfully log into each of those accounts using a browser and without encountering a Captcha screen?

I'm using AVG Free...just like always.
And, yes, I can log in and retrieve messages online directly with SeaMonkey without any problem.

How is the account set up in Thunderbird, as POP or IMAP?

Close the mail window. Log onto either of the accounts using the browser module and review and delete the oldest message in the inbox folder not yet downloaded to SeaMonkey. Open the mail window and see if any messages are received from that account.

Re: SeaMonkey can't retrieve email
Dan, I believe your earlier comment led me to the right remedy.
There was a lot going on when the problem was occurring which distracted me from focusing on AVG AntiVirus. I believe that was the problem.
After several gyrations with AVG, things seem to be back to normal.
Thanks again for your good assistance.

Re: SeaMonkey can't retrieve email
You're welcome. Glad you've resolved things.
I guess I should also have asked if AVG had updated or if any settings in that security software had been changed. That would have been helpful information.
