You're creating still another thread on essentially the same SeaMonkey issues. Did you ever try migrating the file prefs.js from the working profile to the non-working one?

Dan, no, this is another issue with another email account. The one you are referring to is an ATT/Yahoo account problem and I have not had time to try your migrating suggestion.

I can't get pop.csi.com retrieval to work any more with SeaMonkey so I thought I would try setting up an imap.aol.com account and see if it works.

I get through the whole process and SeaMonkey crashes when I click <finish>. When I restart, the added account is shown there but it doesn't generate the sub-headings like the other accounts. When I try to <get message> nothing happens so I guess the crash kept the account from getting fully established.

Your thoughts?

Thanks!

Dan, I just noticed that although I stipulated "email" the server type for the new account is indicated to be News Server (NNTP).

How did you set up that AOL account? Did you use the New Account Wizard or did you manually enter the settings for that new IMAP account? If either event, what settings are listed in SeaMonkey for that account?

Dan, I went to <edit> <mail & newsgroup acct setting> and clicked <add account> which got me to the New Acct Wizard.

The settings are imap.aol.com with Port 993 SSL/TLS and smpt.aol.com Port 587 Start/TLS

Hmm. Those values look right but you might remove that account (nothing has yet been downloaded so no risk of message loss) and then recreate the account using the manual account instructions from this article -- https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/ma ... figuration

Dan, those Thunderbird instructions don't get me to a manual setup opportunity with SeaMonkey.

Rather I always get Wizard but truthfully, I believe it is the manual setup as I enter all the parameters myself.

Have you created a newsgroup account?

After creating a news account through clicking a news URL, the MailNews account wizard may be broken (the account type will always be News). To work around the problem, set the mail.server.serverX.valid pref (where X is the internal number of the corresponding news account) to true in about:config, or delete the invalid news account (bug 521861).

Dan, how would I know if I might have long ago created a MailNews account? It doesn't show up with open "Mail and NewsGroup Acct Settings".

If there is a NewsGroup Acct, how do I delete it to satisfy SeaMonkey so that it will allow me to add an additional account.

Thanks again!

Menu path Window->Mail & Newsgroups->Edit->Mail & Newsgroup Settings->look in the left hand pane of that window to see what accounts exist in that SeaMonkey profile.

Dan, as mentioned before, only my email accounts, local folders, and outgoing server. No mention of NewsGroups.

Then the suggested bug doesn't seem to be involved in your situation.

Dan, something is making the Wizard stick with NewsGroups instead of using Email per my setup instructions.

As you say, though, this may be unrelated to the crashes when clicking <finish>.

Does anyone have any suggestions that I can try to get around this problem, please? This is a pressing need.

Thanks!
