Updates

Post by mtwine »

When I updated SeaMonkey a few months ago, I lost all my emails/email addresses and browser links. There's another update available. How do I do this without losing everything again? tx.

How did you do the update last time? Using the built-in process (menu path Help->Check for updates) should only download and install the newer version without touching the user profile, where your messages and other data are stored.

Before updating this time, backup your profile so you can recover data if something unexpected happens again -- http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_backup

  • The automatic updates no work with SeaMonkey 2.49.3 #-o

In any case, always backup your Profile, first.

@OP, possible that you ended up running a different or new Profile entirely?
Check Profile Manager.
Or that you updated from a very old version of SeaMonkey?
Fire 750, bring back 250.

I now have SeaMonkey 2.49.1 and am supposed to update to 2.49.3. I'm a bit confused by the messages above regarding backing up, esp the Mozilla Back up link which states:
"MozBackup is not being developed anymore. There are known issues and there is no time on my side to fix all issues and develop new features. Use MozBackup only on your risk. Thanks for understanding. Source code is available on GitHub."
Not sure where that leaves me.... tx.

It leaves, at a minimum, copying the profile using the Windows copy functions as described under the "Manually back up the profile."

Well, is there enough difference between 2.49.1 and 2.49.3 for me to do it? tx.

To do what?

To backup?
When something goes wrong & you don't have a backup, you'll then be able to answer that question.

To update?
There are security fixes in .3, so yes, you would want to update.
Fire 750, bring back 250.
