SM Project site cannot be accessed

Post by Peter Creasey »

I tried to go to The SeaMonkey Project and was prevented from doing so. I got a popup that said "the site has an invalid security certificate" (apparently it has expired).

Any suggestions, please?

Thanks.

BTW

There is something strange with it - by default there is no button to accept expired cert.

https://www.seamonkey-project.org/

Under SeaMonkey 2.49.5 there is no button "I understand the risk" -> "Add exception":

... while SeaMonkey 2.53 (Build identifier: 20190909130006) can see it:

But when I removed "www." from address then SeaMonkey 2.49.5 was able to see it too:

Well... I hope we will not wait too long for official SeaMonkey 2.53... [-o<

Yes, there was no option with SM 2.49.4 to add the exception.

Interestingly, I see the "I Understand the Risks" section on SeaMonkey 2.49.5 x86_64 Linux but neither on SeaMonkey 2.49.5 x86 or x64 versions (both seem to go to https://www.seamonkey-project.org/). :-k

I see the same thing. If you open the "Technical Details" tab you'll see that the paragraph on HTTP Strict Transport Security (HSTS) is missing, probably hiding the exception option when it's set. If you never before visited the no-www site with this profile, SM has never registered HSTS enforcement for it and thus shows the override option (I guess).
