Lines on left side of mail

Hi,
For some reason my mails have developed all these lines on the left side of the page. I used to have these years ago, but haven't seen them recently.
Any help is appreciated, in getting rid of them.

There is new SeaMonkey 2.53.1 available:

(remember about backup before update).

Hi TPR,
I installed 2.53 but am still getting the lines. I think I'll leave it as is for a while, to see if I can determine under what circumstances they show up.

We don't know what "lines". Screenshot could be helpful. Do you use some non build-in theme? Did you try Safe Mode (for SeaMonkey, not for Windows)? Because, you know, it can be outdated and not compatible extension. Did you mess something with "UserChrome.css" to change SeaMonkey (-'s behavior) somehow?

As a TBird user I gotta ask... does SM mark quoted messages with lines down the left side?

Sounds like the quote level color bars that appear for different replies to a message.

Yes since 2.49.x somewhat. Think .3 or .4 not sure.

I think it is to do with the preference 'format=flowed' text, see this article:

It would help if you specified where these lines appear. Are they in the folderpane, the list pane, or the message pane?
