(I know nothing of phones, so...) in what way does (did) a phone connect to (a presumably) browser (external to the phone)?
Fire 750, bring back 250.

Phone connects to internet over its data connection to cell towers.
Phone with wifi hotspot capability then acts as wifi router.
Computer/mobile device with wifi capability connects to internet via phone wifi hotspot.
Browser runs on computer/mobile device.

Sounds to me like the IT folks at your company have started to block access from external networks. If you need this to work from home, see if they've set up a VPN you can use.
