Can't Log In On Banking Site

Post by Johnfull »

Not sure if I should name the bank here.
Microsoft Edge and iPhone have no problem logging on.
Newest iteration of Seamonkey is the culprit, I think.
Increasingly difficult and finally impossible.
Bank says it's having issues of various types with authentication.

Try overriding the user agent string to Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; WOW64; rv:78.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/78.0

I don't remember how to do that.

Is it in the about:config page?
It's been a long time since I've mucked around with that -- a tribute to Seamonkey being trouble-free, I suppose...

Didn't work.

general.useragent.override.google.com;Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; WOW64; rv78.0; ) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/78.0

Should I change 'site specific' to 'true'?

I don't know why it added 'google.com' when I copied and pasted the line...

That needs to be the entry for whatever your problem site is.

You should.

Isn't, general.useragent.site_specific_overrides, defaulted to 'true'?
Fire 750, bring back 250.

It worked! Thanks!

Site-specific was not defaulted to true, and toggling it did the trick.
My banking site now performs normally again.

Frank, glad you are back. You have been missed. I sent you a Private Message regarding my being blocked on your site.

Here's a site here discussing it -- http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic ... &t=3078645

Have you intentionally blocked me for some reason? If so, perhaps PM me as to why.

A bit presumptuous to say I take without giving.
Over many years, I've added my expertise (ha!) whenever possible.
Here, I was asking whether or not it is wise to let the planet know what financial institution I use.
It would add nothing to the discussion. I might add that I talked to the bank about the problem as well, so there is no way to really know who fixed it.
They said they've had a lot of trouble of late, with authentication steps throwing users off their website at various stages.
Cheers! 8-[

Except Frank did not say that. You may have understood his words to mean that but if it had been what he meant, Frank would have come right out and said it. He was just pointing out that getting support on an issue in an on-line forum will work best when one provides enough information for respondents to attempt to reproduce the issue being reported.
