Hi all,
I'm thinking of installing SeaMonkey on Linux Mint. I currently have Firefox, but am not finding it very responsive.
Also, Linux is new to me, so I have no idea how to install SeaMonkey on it.
Any help is appreciated.

- If you want it easy, you can use Ubuntuzilla:
Seamonkey-Mozilla-Build wrote: SeaMonkey, official Mozilla build, packaged for Ubuntu by the Ubuntuzilla project.
This is the unmodified Mozilla release binary of Seamonkey, packaged into a .deb by the Ubuntuzilla project. - Ubuntuzilla, is an unmodified Mozilla release binary of SeaMonkey, and supports automatic updates.
- Installer .deb Download: - SeaMonkey-Mozilla-build_2.53.9-0ubuntu1_i386.deb
SHA1: dc971c8eb1e9d8ae889e544bfa0137d0036357cd - SeaMonkey-Mozilla-build_2.53.9-0ubuntu1_amd64.deb
SHA1: 54865e39d8d98f77cf6ce817e187a1ab2438ce52
- And, if you want to install SeaMonkey 2.53.9 manually, follow these steps:
Code: Select all
$ wget https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/seamonkey/releases/2.53.9/linux-i686/en-US/seamonkey-2.53.9.en-US.linux-i686.tar.bz2 (i386) $ wget https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/seamonkey/releases/2.53.9/linux-x86_64/en-US/seamonkey-2.53.9.en-US.linux-x86_64.tar.bz2 (x86_64) $ tar -xjvf seamonkey-2.53.9.tar.bz2 $ sudo rm -rf /opt/seamonkey /usr/bin/seamonkey ( ==> Only if you have a previous version of SeaMonkey installed) $ sudo cp -r seamonkey /opt/seamonkey $ sudo ln -sf /opt/seamonkey/seamonkey /usr/bin/seamonkey
PS.- BTW, Linux Mint 18, has already reached end of life (EOL) since April 2021.
Cheers !!

Re: installing SeaMonkey on Linux Mint 18
Hi EITxolo,
Thanks for the links, I'll try one out.
I suspected that Mint18 would be out of date; but I wanted to cut my teeth on one I already have, before installing a more recent version. Do you know if Mint18 can be upgraded, or do I have to download a more recent distro?
Thanks,
.... john

Here's another method - http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic ... #p13837175shakushinnen wrote:Also, Linux is new to me, so I have no idea how to install SeaMonkey on it.
That's the method I used for years on Linux when I wanted to test beta versions, without having to fully install them.

I use puppy linux and use a community portable version of seamonkey browser and it works perfectly even on my relatively old laptop and have done for a few years.
I find mint and most of the main distros to be rather bloated.

Hi,
Thanks captain. If I ever get around to revisiting this I will give Puppy a try.
