Email problem with Gmail Accounts

Post by 9fingers »

In trying to tidy up my email to keep personal and business apart I have set up 3 gmail accounts
lets call these A@gmail.com, B@gmail.com and C@gmail.com
I can access these via webmail in the browser and also have set up 3 accounts in seamonkey mail using the IMAP port settings and can send and receive on each and passwords all behaving etc etc.

BUT
when I send a message from A@gmail.com to either one of the other Gmail accounts or an external account, using Seamonkey mail, the received message

shows as from A<B@gmail.com> and a return reply goes to B@gmail.com.

In the account setup I can force a return address to be A@gmail.com but the outgoing messages still show as being from from A<B@gmail.com>

Apart from potentially confusing the recipient, it totally defeats my objective of trying to keep email addresses separate.

Similar issues occur with the other combinations of A, B & C

Send the same messages via webmail all seems to be sensible and addresses are all correct.

So might it be an IMAP problem or SeaMonkey or me the idiot user?

Any clues please as to where to start looking to fix this?

SeaMonkey ver 2.53.9.1 running under Windows 10

TIA

Bob, Have you setup separate SMTP server definitions for each account in SeaMonkey? If not, you may find that helpful.

Hi Dan, Thanks for your reply. that really sounded like it might do the trick but each time I edit the SMTP server in one account, it gets copied into the sever setting for the other accounts and I don't know how to break the link.

Are you making the edits under menu path Tools->Account Settings->Outgoing Server (SMTP)?

Hi Dan,

No I don't have that path available in my seamonkey

I'm using Edit->Mail & newsgroups account settings->select relevant email account->Outgoing Server (SMTP)

Does this look OK?

Oops, sorry. What I post was the menu path for Thunderbird.

I should have posted Edit->Mail & Newsgroup account settings->Outgoing Server (SMTP) where you can actually add new new outgoing server definitions.

No problem Dan.

However when I change the server details on one account, it changes on the others so that means I cant have different SMTP for each account which was your initial suggestion.

You must set "Outgoing Sever (SMTP)" for every e-mail account and then properly assign them as defaults:

Not to hijack the thread, but this makes one wonder why different output servers are needed. What's wrong with just one to handle all email accounts?

Because separate SMTP definitions cause the recipient to see the specific email account/address you sent the message from. And please don't hijack other people[s topics.

Is it possible to rearrange the order in which the accounts appear in the left hand column?
I've found that any one account can be put at the top by marking it as "default" but the other seem to be fixed.
Possibly a trivial point but curious nevertheless

With extension only. You can use older 1.1.1 version of "Manually sort folders" for old Thunderbird:
https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-GB/th ... /versions/
... and then convert it on this site:
https://addonconverter.fotokraina.com/

Here is already converted:
