Profile Migration Tool

Post by Wish You Were Here »

I'm looking to create a new profile and import all information without having to do it manually.

When I use this tool:

http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_migration_-_SeaMonkey

I set the new name and my current directory information as such:

C:\Program Files (x86)\SeaMonkey\seamonkey.exe" -P "2022Master" -migration

Then select Start, enter Run and get what I think is the proper run box.

The Win7 Run box yields this error: "Windows cannot find 'C:\Program'. Make sure you typed the name correctly and the try again."

Note, it does not include the full string, just that short portion.

What am I doing, entering the migration tool string in the wrong place?

You miss first quote mark " at the very beginning of string.

Interesting. Never would have thought to add that, though I might have expected to remove the others.

Doing that gives me an error about an 'unavailable location', but that may be because I have SM open at the time. I'll try it later again next time I close.

Haven't been able to get that to work at all. Doing it manually.

Have most everything appearing in the new profile including bookmarks and mail folders with IDs and content.

Problems (so far)-----

Moved (copy/paste) key3.db, key4.db and signons.sqlite, but I do not see the passwords in the new profile

Tab session history isn't there either, nor are the add-ons or extensions even though I moved the Extensions folder.

Yes, that all still works in the old profile.

Tab session history
That would be in sessionstore*.*.

You might have to open that manually (Go | Restore Previous Session), depending on how your existing settings are set.
(You should [manually] copy files over with the browsers closed.)
Fire 750, bring back 250.

logins and sessionstore are not in this list of files to manually copy:

http://kb.mozillazine.org/Transferring_ ... _SeaMonkey

But I'll add them next time I shut down and see what happens.

I seem to be on the new profile and most everything looks OK so far. Had to 'customize' the toolbar again and all of the add-ons'/extensions were installed, but showed as 'disabled' and had to be enabled again. But everything seems to work so far.

Mail works, but had to pull all of the emails from Outlook again.

"Transferring_data_to_a_new_profile_-_SeaMonkey" is from 2009.
This is a Firefox article, but it is applicable to SeaMonkey:
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Transferring_ ... _-_Firefox

cert9.db (pkcs11.txt has replaced secmode.db; do not transfer)
content-prefs.sqlite
cookies.sqlite
favicons.sqlite (Firefox 55 and above)
formhistory.sqlite
handlers.json (mimeTypes.rdf in Firefox 54 and below; bug 1287658)?? not in seaMonkey
key4.db
logins.json (Firefox 32 and above)
permissions.sqlite
persdict.dat
places.sqlite
search.json.mozlz4
sessionstore.bak
sessionstore.json
webappsstore.sqlite ??

Folders:

bookmarkbackups
chrome (if it exists)
plugins (Firefox 44 and below)

key3.db is obsolete use key4.db
cert8.db is obsolete use cert9.db

downloads.json
Is a list of items that you downloaded with download manager.
info on from whom, time, file size, etc.
If your wanting to keep a record of this information go ahead and move.
"clearing list" deletes this info.

don't have a "downloads.sqlite"

downloads.sqlite looks to be from SeaMonkey 2.49.5 (& before), so no longer relevant to current SeaMonkey.
