Seamonkey 502 error - [resolved site specific user agent]

Post by Rob_S »

Seamonkey 2.53.10.2 on Windows 10 gives 502 error at the following forum site.

Edge connects without error from same computer.

https://forum.designcad.com/index.php

I have been getting this error intermittently for a while, but now its been consistent since yesterday.

I believe I have been able to connect with this latest version at first, but now not.

Any ideas

A site specific override with a FF78, Chome91 or Android Mobile UA string will sort that one out.

Try - Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:78.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/78.0

Thanks, Frank, that worked. I did not know til now that it could be used to fix 502 errors.

Also, having not done it before, it took me quite a bit of searching to find out exactly how to do it.

Not being very good at typing accurately from memory, I found it easiest to compose the required strings in notepad, and then open about-config to insert them. Once the dialog was open, I could no longer get where I needed to go to see what I needed to type...

So, for benefit of anyone interested, I proceeded as follows:

Compose this in notepad:

new string name: general.useragent.override.forum.designcad.com

enter string value: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:78.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/78.0

Then in url-bar - about:config, and accept the dire warning

Right-click, New, String - In dialog labeled "new string value" - paste in the first line above, and OK

In dialog labeled "enter string value" Paste in the second string above, and OK

Restarted seamonkey - not sure if that is necessary

Also need to make sure general.useragent.site_specific_overrides is set to True

ps Should not the first dialog be labelled "new string NAME"

Rob, I have the general user agent override (not the specific one), and the site you mention opens fine.

The key to it seems to be the firefox 78 part of the string??

That is not present in the string below my post above.

He's using a general override (general.useragent.override), you are using a site specific.
(Site specific is the route I'd take.)

I did not know til now that it could be used to fix 502 errors
It didn't "fix" anything.
It (happened to) work around poor site coding that otherwise throws you to a bogus "502" error page.
Fire 750, bring back 250.
