I use the built-in update mechanism to update SM, so I'm currently on 2.53.12. But, Windows "Programs and Features" or Settings -> Apps stills shows the originally installed build of 2.53.8.
Can the update be changed to update this meta data in Windows?

Re: Updates are not reflected in Programs
Works for me under Windows Server 2019 and Windows 10 Pro 21H1. Information about updated version shows immediately after update, no need to restart. In both classic and Metro view. Looks like it's something on your side.Justinh wrote:I use the built-in update mechanism to update SM, so I'm currently on 2.53.12. I don't know what it could be, other than I don't use the default install folder. Even then, this problem should not happen.

msi data in the registry might have developed a problem. Uninstall, reboot and reinstall. Nothing we can do. Might happen when you install the x64 over the x86 without uninstalling first among other things or different users used for the install or moon phase out of sync.

Re: Updates are not reflected in Programs
I uninstalled, rebooted.
Then I combed thru the registry. I found:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Mozilla\SeaMonkey - showed the currently installed build
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Mozilla\SeaMonkey - showed the old version
I then installed 2.53.12, and updated to 2.53.13 via SM update.
--> The issue persists, Apps still shows 2.53.12.
I think the problem is that SM update doesn't prompt for UAC\admin rights, so it can't write to the HKLM hive, or some other piece that needs admin rights.

(I don't "install". Maybe I did at some point in the ancient past?
On my end:
HKCU does not show any version number at all
HKLM shows 2.53.6 .)

If you never installed, then how did you get it installed? Updates only recently started working.

Correct(-ish), ZIP.
(Actually, I download the .exe installer & unpack it.
Exactly the same as the ZIP & smaller.)
As far as update, I don't update through the program.
(I download the next release manually & "install", as above.)
