Seamonkey 2.53.15 showing blank pages

Post by bigjeff66 »

Have been a seamonkey user for ever. Recently I upgraded to 2.53.15. On some websites I get the part of the top of the pages then the middle is blank, show no content. It seems to be getting worse. Any body had the same problem?
Thank you

Uh, you're going to have to be a little more specific. As in, what site(s), OS, etc?

I'm going to take a wild guess and say it's probably a javascript issue. But, without the aforementioned specifics, I (nor anyone else) can be sure.

Two things:
1) Cloudflare is used as host and those bustards don't like SeaMonkey. Such blockade can be avoided by spoofing User Agent (site specific option) for Cloudflare domain(-s):
viewtopic.php?p=14948555#p14948555
2) even after above solution mentioned website will not work as intended - some part/functions will not work correct (or at all).

Until our brave developers will backport some newer functions we must use "backup browsers" (e.g. Firefox).

I don't have time to check other websites but it can be similar problem.

With SeaMonkey for kendallfordofmeridian, I tried spoofing the user-agent for Firefox, Safari, and Chrome. I got the same result in each case: no middle content. With Pale Moon, I get the page with no problem. It must be something to do with rendering the page, not user-agent sniffing.
For carbide3d, with both SeaMonkey and Pale Moon, the page has no images and everything is shifted to the right. Faking the user-agent does not help.
With lightburnsoftware, I get a normal-looking page with SeaMonkey, Pale Moon, and Safari, but get a server error with chromium browsers. With SeaMonkey and Pale Moon, I see a notice at the top that my browser is unsupported, and faking the user-agent makes no difference.
I get a different result with each of those cases with more than one browser.

Thanks for the input here are a couple of more:
https://forum.lightburnsoftware.com/t/o ... -v2a/33410 ( will not work on this forum and others says unsupported browser)
Avery.com
https://www.vintagemodela.com/post/1931 ... tion-wagon
https://www.timberworksreclaimedlumber.com/
Also when on this site I click on my posts on the user control area I get this error:
General Error

I believe the big tech dogs are roping in any competitor so they can't be a competitor. I had Edge on my pc a while back and when using Seamonkey it was so slow it would hardly work. Deleted Edge and cleaned it out of the registry then worked fine. Then there's Google.

With vintagemodela and timberworksreclaimedlumber, SeaMonkey and Pale Moon get the message "Your browser is no longer supported". A chromium browser (not necessarily Chrome) works.

So why didn't you contact the Board Administrator as it suggested (or go to the Site Discussion forum) instead of posting about it on a SeaMonkey Support Forum?!

That aside, the workaround for that is here - http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic ... #p14903331

With these 'Greeley's Grain & Dry Goods' type websites that only one SM user ever sometimes visits, you do pretty much have to fix those yourself, especially if other people have no idea how that website should look -

http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic ... #p14870870

The User Agent Switcher extension is pretty good for trying out different useragent strings and then it's down the rest of the list and, if no joy, open the site with Chromium or Edge Beta, etc. Obviously, if it's a site you visit a lot then it might worth spending more time on finding a fix. i.e. Tineye website for me sometime.

But, yeah, when we choose to use a browser that, in some respects, is a few years out of date then we shouldn't be surprised if some websites state that you are using 'an unsupported browser'....because, er, we are.
