Hi
have just added a new email account to mozilla mail.
can send okay but each time i try to download (test) emails I keep getting an error message that says:
"folder being generated - please wait"
but nothing happens
I've tried closing down and opening up again but still get the same message

Close Thunderbird. Find and delete all of the files with the .msf file extension in your profile folder/Mail http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_Folder#Thunderbird including your Local Folders, especially if you are using the global inbox. You must have "View hidden files and folders" on http://spywarewarrior.com/viewtopic.php?t=272 and you need to set "hide extensions for known file types" off (just below View Hidden) if you are using Windows. These are your mail summary files and do not hold any messages themselves. They will be rebuilt the next time you open each folder in Thunderbird. Compact all your folders when you have completed this. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Compacting_folders

thanks for this info
have to go out know but hope to have time later tonight to go through the procedure you describe.
As i understand it deleting the .msf files will not interfer with the other email accounts running successfully.
will let you know how i get on.

Hi
I followed instructions and had no problems using my existing three emails account when I re-opend Mozilla Mail.
However still had problems with new email address I had to add ie got the same message when trying to download test emails.
So deleted that account set up and then re-created - still the same problem.
so out of sheer frustration as i need this new email account because existing email service is being discontinued I used Mozilla Thunderbird which up until now I had only been using for my RSS feeds.
new email account worked fine.
is there a limit to how many different email accounts you can have in Mozilla Mail or something.
Anyhow am grateful for your help and advice and have kept the notes I have downloaded about regularly compacting folders etc.
Am always impressed with the level of knowledge and willingness to help on these forums.
thanks again

If you are setting up your fourth email account in Thunderbird you have not yet approached a limit on the number of active accounts. Some folks regularly posting here report having a dozen or more accounts in one Thunderbird profile.
