Benefits of compiling from source?

Post by ronjohn »

Hi,

Ubuntu 13.10 amd64

Is there any noticeable benefits to building from source? Specifically, will it autoconfig for my specific CPU, and use more instructions than existed in the first AMD64 CPUs?

More importantly, are those instructions in places where they'll make a difference?

Thanks

Official only use -O1 or -Os, doesn't have any autotune compiler options.
