"Unable to locate package firefox-trunk" Linux nightly

Post by Grantius »

Hi all,

I'm new to Linux and looking at setting up Nightly.
The official steps don't work:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-mozilla-daily/ppa
sudo apt-get update

these work fine, the repo is added. However, running:

sudo apt-get install firefox-trunk

I get this error:
"E: Unable to locate package firefox-trunk"

Any ideas?

Are you using the development version Vivid?
Browsing the ppa, there are versions available for Precise, Trusty and Utopic but Vivid has not been built yet.

Yes, I am. Is there a way to trick it to install utopics version instead?

You could try:
Open your package manager and open up the Software Sources (this may vary depending on what program you're using) and find the line for the Firefox PPA. Click on edit and change the distribution line from Vivid to Utopic. Close and reload your sources. As long as it doesn't need any dependencies that are not in the repos it should work.
