Removing Official 41-44 x64 plugin restriction tool

I upload the English version: http://sourceforge.net/projects/pcxfire ... z/download

It is generated using diablo2oo2’s Universal Patcher v2.26.1, and the project is in https://sourceforge.net/projects/pcxfir ... p2project/

After testing, the patch works in 41.0-44.0, but does not work in 45.0+

If I have time, I will investigate the patch again.

I think the main reason is that Flash is one of the only "legitimate" plugins out there that actually supports 64-bit browsers. They probably consider PDF.js mature enough to completely replace 3rd party PDF readers, and most versions of Java have been blocked at some point due to security issues. Java is the only *real* killer here as it is still required for supporting business-related hardware interfaces, which means Firefox 64-bit a non-starter for those users.

Re: Silverlight: Microsoft doesn't even support Silverlight in Edge, which tells me they view it as a deadend. And there's a weird message on the Silverlight installer page saying it doesn't support any 64-bit browsers, except for IE: http://www.microsoft.com/getsilverlight ... ason=64bit

Last month, Chrome completely dropped support for NPAPI plugins, and Mozilla has plans to do that as well... likely in around a year when they switch over to Servo. https://blog.mozilla.org/research/2014/ ... ment-28602

At that time, extensions like FireIE will be dead because the XPCOM and XUL plugin architecture will not be included in Servo either:

I hope not. While there are a number of good PDF makers or viewers, PDF.js isn't one. Something as simple as copying and pasting to another document doesn't really work. Nor does form filling.

I think the biggest reasons are Edge and Chrome did it. At least with Firefox, you'll have the option to use 32-bit with plugins (until they do it there too!). And when e10s finally comes out, it's possible that some of the memory problems that push people to 64-bit will be resolved so it won't really be needed anyway.

Well, I didn't test it with SeaMonkey, if it works, I think the related code is the same between them.

How to use it? I don't understand Chinese.
I put the file in the Fx x64 installation folder and clicked first button. Created xul.dll.BAK file, but Firefox x64 remains only recognizing Flash, not others like SumatraPDF. These run well when I open my profile on Firefox x86.
Thanks.

Doesn't work for me (official Fx 43.0.1 x64, Windows 10). I pasted npPdfViewer.dll (SumatraPDF plugin) in (profilefolder)\plugins, (installationfolder)\plugins, %appdata%\Mozilla\plugins... but about:plugins still doesn't recognize SumatraPDF plugin.

Maybe you used the wrong x86 plugin.
